Board Members
Board Duties:

Some of the responsibilities which are assigned to the school board in the Revised School Code include:
  • Setting the curricula and courses taught in the schools.
  • Employing a superintendent, other administrators, teachers, and support personnel.
  • Levying local taxes to run the schools and adopting a budget.
  • Deciding whether or not to furnish transportation for pupils.
  • Negotiating with employee unions regarding salaries and other conditions of employment.
  • Acquiring and disposing of school property.

Board Meetings:

  • Regular meetings of the Board of Education are held on the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in Central Services Facility (1414 Chase Road) Community Room.
  • 2011-12 Board of Education regular meeting dates:  Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11, July 9.
  • Special meetings will be posted as to date, time, and place.
  • All meetings are open to the public except, in accordance with state statutes, the board meets in closed session to discuss matters of personnel, negotiations, or the purchase of land.
  • Persons with disabilities who need special accommodations should call the Board of Education Office at 754-3686 five days prior to the Board meeting.
  • Early in the agenda, a time is set aside for citizen comments. The Board will provide answers to all questions raised by visitors. Generally, questions of fact can be answered at the meeting at which they are raised. Other questions may be referred to the administration for investigation and study, and a reply given by mail or phone at the earliest possible date.
  • Citizens are encouraged to take concerns directly to the staff person closest to the problem to allow for a timely response.
